What is an Enduring Power of Attorney ?
An Enduring Power of Attorney is a legal document which allows you to appoint a person of your choice to make financial, legal, and real estate decisions for you.
You can authorise your appointed Attorney to act on your behalf from the date the person is appointed, or from the date you can no longer make those decisions for yourself.
You need to have full mental capacity to sign an Enduring Power of Attorney, therefore it is not something you should delay in obtaining. If you leave it too late, your options about who and how your affairs will be managed become limited.
An Enduring Power of Attorney can be a very powerful and useful document. However, such a document is not risk free. We pride ourselves on providing fulsome advice in this area, including, importantly, the role and obligations of your appointed Attorney.
